To have a strong start one must have   the necessary tools to elevate himself into another level spiritually, mentally and emotionally. When we talk about doing something that will yield great results in all areas of life, the Daniel Fast cannot be neglected at all. The Daniel Fast or Daniel Diet is regarded as one of the key ingredients to kick everything in motion and to be productive in all areas of life.

While there are plenty of diets available at our disposal nowadays, like the ketogenic diet in which this blog is all about, the Daniel Diet is different because it has a greater impact in one person’s life. It is a biblical diet that resulted into spiritual exploits for Daniel as well as his friends.

The Daniel Fast is formulated from the Bible, which states in Daniel 10:3 that “I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.” Yes, 21 days of fasting for Daniel with a lifelong result.

We can also look at this verse, “But Daniel resolved that he would not defile himself with the king’s food, or with the wine that he drank. Therefore, he asked the chief of the eunuchs to allow him not to defile himself” (Daniel 1:8).

In verse 12 of Daniel chapter one states the food that they requested to eat, “Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink. ” The King James version used “pulse” instead of vegetables. Pulse in the bible refers to a type of food that is connected to plant-based diet. During the time of Daniel, pulse was considered a staple food such as lentils, beans, peas, and chickpeas. Absolutely, these are very nutrient dense legumes that would help the body to be healthy.

Daniel and his companions decided to obey God by maintaining a healthy and pure life by utilizing the importance of pulse. The nutritional value of pulse cannot be questioned at all. Proven scientifically to nourish the body and to maintain health for productivity.

There are two instances that Daniel fasted, the 10-day fast in chapter one with his companions and his 21-day fast in chapter 10 for spiritual breakthrough The 21-day Daniel fast is more challenging but as person who wants to be closer to God and to experience healing and refreshing.

How about the low carb Daniel Diet? Is it possible?

For those who are doing the ketogenic diet (less than 50 grams of carbs) or any low carb diet, the Daniel diet can be a low carb. However, it would be too restrictive and too difficult to prepare food unless do it with simplicity. Just for this time of year, to give oneself to God as a living sacrifice and to seek Him in 21 days is worth trying.

Again, the Daniel Diet is about eating plant-based, preferable whole, not ultra-processed foods. This is the month of the year to enjoy the taste of vegetables and fruits available in your place.
